A scientific paper authored by Kateryna Oleksandrivna Shvydyuk, João Nunes-Pereira, Frederico F. Rodrigues and Abílio P. Silva, on the use of ceramics in the aeronautical and aerospace sectors, was recognised by the specialist journal Ceramics as the best paper of 2023.
The journal, which is ranked in the second quartile within its field and has a considerable impact, announced the award this year.
The paper, entitled “Review of Ceramic Composites in Aeronautics and Aerospace: A Multifunctional Approach for TPS, TBC and DBD Applications,” was selected from among 149 eligible articles based on an overall assessment of its originality and relevance, as well as citation and download figures.
Kateryna Shvydyuk is currently a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Electromechanical Engineering. She also holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from UBI and co-authored the paper with researchers from C-MAST, the Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technologies.
The application of advanced materials, such as ceramics, in the aeronautical and aerospace sectors is the focus of Kateryna Shvydyuk’s current research. This year, she was selected to represent UBI in the international final of “My 3-Minute PhD Thesis,” a competition for doctoral students from the UNITA – Universitas Montium alliance.
